Chapter 12 - Verse 15
यस्मान्नोद्विजते लोको लोकान्नोद्विजते च य: |
हर्षामर्षभयोद्वेगैर्मुक्तो य: स च मे प्रिय: || 15||

Translation

One who is not perturbed by the goings on in this world, who does
not perturb this world, and who is not impacted by pleasure, anger, fear, or
anxiety is indeed dear to Me.

Unfiltered First Take

People associated with the entrepreneur should be eager and happy to interact with him. They should not be scared or annoyed during casual conversations. The entrepreneur should not be influenced by others’ behavior and must retain composure at all times. He should understand that ups and downs, wins and losses, pleasure and pain are all part of running a business, and these fluctuations help the business and the entrepreneur fine tune themselves and grow.

He is fearless and can go to any extent to ensure the right things are done for the organization. He enjoys dealing with the complexities of business and therefore remains calm and never anxious.

UdyamGita Interpretation

The Lord now describes a devotee whose presence itself is peaceful.

Such a person neither disturbs others nor gets disturbed by them. They are free from emotional turbulence—no fear, no anxiety, no agitation—remaining balanced in pleasure and pain.

This verse is about emotional neutrality with moral strength—a rare and powerful combination.

Business Insight

In entrepreneurship, presence matters as much as performance.

People around a founder should feel safe, open, and energized—not anxious or guarded. Teams thrive when they can speak freely without fear of irritation, humiliation, or unpredictable reactions.

At the same time, the entrepreneur must not become emotionally hostage to others’ moods, opinions, or provocations. External behavior—criticism, praise, resistance, or misunderstanding—should not shake inner composure.

Business naturally brings:

  • wins and losses,
  • applause and resistance,
  • pleasure and pressure.

The mature entrepreneur understands that these fluctuations are feedback mechanisms, not personal judgments. Each high and low helps fine-tune both the business and the founder.

Leadership Lesson

Fearlessness is not aggression. It is inner steadiness.

Such leaders can take bold, uncomfortable decisions when required—hiring, firing, pivoting, confronting inefficiencies—without being anxious or reactive. Because they are not afraid, they do not create fear.

They enjoy complexity instead of resisting it. Anxiety disappears when challenges are seen as raw material for growth rather than threats to identity.

By staying calm and unprovoking, the leader becomes a stabilizing center—someone people want to approach, not avoid.

Key Takeaways

  • A leader’s emotional presence shapes the culture more than policies do.
  • Approachability builds openness; composure builds trust.
  • Do not let others’ behavior dictate your inner state.
  • Ups and downs are feedback, not failures.
  • Fearlessness allows tough decisions without emotional damage.
  • Calm leaders attract clarity; anxious leaders spread anxiety.
