The Gita Blueprint for Leading and Winning in Business

UdyamGita

Kṣhetra Kṣhetrajña Vibhāga Yoga

Chapter 13 - Verse 16
बहिरन्तश्च भूतानामचरं चरमेव च |
सूक्ष्मत्वात्तदविज्ञेयं दूरस्थं चान्तिके च तत् || 16||

Translation

It exists both inside and outside of all beings. It is mobile and
stationary at the same time. It is extremely minute hence cannot be
perceived by sense organs. It is very far and at the same time, very near.

Unfiltered First Take

The entrepreneur’s thoughts, vision, nature, and approach leave a clear mark on the organization. The team tries to emulate him, resources align to his personality and thought process, and goals reflect his vision. Therefore, the entrepreneur should be very careful about his chain of thoughts, his communication, body language, and actions, as these play a major role in forming the foundation of each division, shaping each person’s approach, and ensuring alignment.

He should not be too open for people to easily read him and should maintain a certain distance from others. This helps him take business calls without attachment and view situations holistically. At the same time, even though he is fully occupied with business tasks, he should create a system, process, or ritual where anyone can speak to him freely and share views, ideas, concerns, and solutions without barriers. This not only builds strong trust and comfort with the entrepreneur but also creates strong bonding with people, making them ready to give their best for his vision and goals.

UdyamGita Interpretation

Krishna describes the Knowable Reality as paradoxical—inside and outside all beings, moving and unmoving, subtle and difficult to grasp, distant yet extremely near.

This verse highlights a presence that is formless yet formative, invisible yet deeply influential. It is not always seen, but its effects are everywhere.

Business Insight

This verse mirrors the invisible influence of an entrepreneur on the organization.

An entrepreneur’s:

  • Thought patterns
  • Vision and intent
  • Emotional responses
  • Communication style, body language, and daily conduct

leave a deep imprint on the enterprise. Teams subconsciously emulate the founder. Resources align to the founder’s thinking. Culture becomes a reflection of the founder’s inner state.

Hence, leadership influence operates both outside (policies, systems, decisions) and inside (mindsets, beliefs, behaviors) of people.

Leadership Lesson

Krishna’s balance of distance and nearness offers a critical leadership cue.

A founder must:

  • Maintain healthy distance, so people do not over-interpret moods, preferences, or biases.
  • Avoid being too emotionally readable, enabling objective, attachment-free decision-making.
  • Yet remain deeply accessible through structured systems—open forums, rituals, reviews, and safe channels of communication.

When leaders are distant without access, fear grows. When leaders are accessible without boundaries, bias creeps in. Wisdom lies in designed accessibility, not casual availability.

Key Takeaways

  • A founder’s inner world silently shapes organizational culture.
  • Thoughts, words, and actions leave lasting imprints across divisions.
  • Strategic distance enables clarity; structured access builds trust.
  • Open communication systems create psychological safety without dependency.
  • Balanced leadership is felt everywhere—even when the leader is not seen.
